Hometown: Elgin

Major: Nonprofit and NGO Studies major and Family Social Services major

Transferred From: Elgin Community College

What advice do you have for future transfer students?
Get involved. I know it can be intimidating coming from a community college, but trying to make connections and talking to your professors will help with the transition. Talking to my professors is how I found out about scholarships and how to apply for them. Make yourself known. Professors want to help, they want to talk to you.

What do you like most about NIU?
The events on campus put on by different organizations and by the school. Plus the resources, scholarships, the cultural center and the library. I feel that if students look they'll find something that NIU has to offer them.

How has transferring to NIU impacted you?
I became more independent when I transferred to NIU. I've become more open and involved as a CLC (Nonprofit and NGO Studies) major, I joined the DREAM action organization and now I’m on the executive board. Because of that I feel more connected with campus and the NIU community.
