What is your major, and why did you choose your field of study?
I am currently an Accountancy major with a Minor in Business Analytics. I chose this field of study because of the fact that accounting is a crucial aspect of any business, therefore making it a secure career during times of recession. Along with that, the rigorous and challenging schoolwork offered in my accounting courses yields high returns in means of useful skills and internship opportunities.
How did you learn about NIU, and why did you choose to attend?
I learned about NIU through my managerial accounting professor, Mr. Packard, from Elgin Community College. Mr. Packard is actually an alumnus from the Department of Accountancy here at the NIU College of Business. I choose to attend this school because I saw the opportunities and resources that were at my disposal at NIU.
Do you have any favorite activities or events at NIU?
One of my favorite events at NIU is Latinos in Business organized by Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA). Latinos in Business is an event that allows high school minority students to become more aware of the professional world and how NIU will direct them into the path of success. The neat thing is that public accounting firm, RSM, helps coordinate this event and leads activities that promote teamwork and communication. This is one of my favorite events because it help minority students develop a picture of the opportunities available for them and potentially create academic goals that are feasible.
What do you like about campus and the DeKalb area?
I like the the culture of the campus and how it is easy to get involved in anything possible. From my experience, every club that I wanted to join was very approachable and accepting of new members.
