Anica Protity is a biology Ph.D. student from Bangladesh
Major: Biology Ph.D. student
Why did you choose your field of study?
I'm interested in the economical importance of it, and would like to develop pharmaceutical products that help relieve joint pain. My mother suffers from arthritis, so I want to focus my study there. I did my bachelor's degree back in Bangladesh.
Are you involved in any activities at NIU?
I'm involved in the Bangladesh Student Association.
What has your experience inside the classroom been like at NIU?
From the classroom to my roommates and friends, everyone is cooperative and so helpful. I'm so happy to have that experience.
Would you recommend NIU to others and why?
Sure, I have recommended others living in my country to NIU. I think the standard of education is very good compared to other universities, and NIU offers a lot of opportunities.
What is up next for you after your time at NIU? Any career aspirations you would like to share?
I want to get back to Bangladesh and serve my people. This Ph.D. will help me with a career in genetic engineering.
What is your favorite place to hang out in the DeKalb area and why?
I love nature so I prefer being outside on campus. The biology department is in Montgomery Hall by the lagoon, and I love the lagoon most.
