Major: Elementary Education
Are you attending NIU on any scholarships? Which one(s)?
I am receiving a scholarship from my job at McDonald’s.
What is your major, and why did you choose your field of study?
My major is elementary education with an endorsement in bilingual. I chose this major because I love children and have always wanted to be a teacher since I was little.
How did you learn about NIU, and why did you choose to attend?
I learned about NIU from my one of my high school gym teachers and she told me how NIU is a good school with a reasonable price to attend. I did not want to go to community college, and NIU was the most affordable option.
What do you like about our campus and community?
I love that the campus isn’t huge but not little either and everyone is so friendly. I remember when I was lost my first few days on campus and asking someone for their help and they helped me without a problem!
What is something you have experienced at NIU that you will be able to take with you into future endeavors in your field?
I was able to be a part of orientation over the summer as an intern at NIU and that is definitely something I will be taking with me when I become a teacher. I learned many things during my internship — for example, how to speak about something or how to answer something more properly. The skills I learned during that time, are skills I will need not only as a teacher to make sure my students are successful but as a human on a daily basis.
What is something people may be surprised to know about you?
I was born in Poland and came to the United States when I was five years old.
