Why did you choose NIU?
I chose NIU because I came to the campus, and I met with the director of the internship. She sold me on the program, she was so funny and friendly. The program itself is a great program, it’s a master’s combined with an internship, and it had the eating disorders and obesity certificate of graduate study, which I’m doing. I’m interested in eating disorders, so that’s why I came here, plus it’s something different.
What is your career goal and why?
I’m studying nutrition and dietetics. I want to be a pediatric dietician, work at a children’s hospital, and I’m also getting an eating disorder and obesity certificate, because I also want to work with eating disorders. There is a high prevalence of eating disorders in the pediatric population. I love working with kids and I love working with nutrition, so I thought it would be a nice way to combine those.
What excites you most about your major?
How it’s always changing. Nutrition is a forever changing science. There’s new research coming out, it seems like every day. There’s something new to learn we thought we knew before that get expanded on or that changes. You used to hear people say no fat, now its no carbs, its no this and no that. There’s always something new as we learn more and more.
