Major: Journalism major
Why did you choose your field of study?
I was an Accountancy major originally, realized it wasn’t for me, and switched to journalism. … I chose journalism because I enjoy writing and find it to be one of my strengths.
How did you learn about NIU, and why did you choose to attend?
Both of my parents graduated from NIU and it’s the closest university to me; it’s pretty much that simple.
What has been your favorite event at NIU, and why?
The homecoming football game is a very cool event that I helped cover on behalf of the Northern Star. It’s an exciting atmosphere with a ton of school spirit.
What has your experience inside the classroom been like at NIU?
As good as possible. I’ve never been the ideal student, but even I have found success in the classroom, which is certainly a testament to my professors and the university.
What is something you have experienced at NIU that you will be able to take with you into future endeavors in your field?
The Northern Star has given me opportunities and experience that I don’t know how I would progress without. I’d recommend it to any student that enjoys writing or intends to write for a living.
Would you recommend NIU to others and why? What’s a general piece of advice you’d give to someone starting college?
I like NIU and would recommend it to anyone, especially if they are from the area like I am. Even though I changed majors, faculty was very helpful to me in finding where I belong. As for advice, get involved with different groups or programs early on. If I could change anything, it would be getting involved sooner.
