Mental Health Contact Information

Students have the opportunity to designate an emergency mental health contact. This individual must be an adult whom you would like to be contacted in the unlikely event you experience a mental health emergency that puts your life, or the live(s) of others, at risk. The emergency mental health contact will be used only if a physician, clinical psychologist, or other mental health professional on campus determines you are experiencing a mental health emergency that puts you or others at risk for serious injury or death. If you choose to designate a mental health emergency contact, this individual will be contacted within 24 hours of the determination that you are a significant risk to yourself or others, so that they may help to provide support to you during such a difficult time. If you have questions about providing this information and are currently working with a mental health professional on campus, you may direct questions to that individual. If you are not currently working with a mental health professional on campus, you may contact Counseling & Consultation Services at 753-1206 and ask to speak with a counselor about making this choice.

If you wish to identify an Emergency Mental Health Contact(s), you must go into MyNIU and identify them under Campus Personal Information within the Self Service module.
