International Student Vaccination Status To-Do List

International students should select from the vaccination status options below to determine their vaccine and quarantine to-do list upon arriving in the United States.

Quarantine

You do not need to quarantine after arriving in the United States.

Vaccine Status

You are fully vaccinated. Please upload proof of your vaccine status.

Quarantine

You will need to quarantine for 10 days once you enter the United States.  Please let us know if you need quarantine space by completing this survey.

Vaccine Status

NIU does not considered you to be fully vaccinated. You must do the following:

  • Request a personal exemption.
  • Wear face masks while in indoor spaces, practice social distancing, and participate in the university’s weekly surveillance testing.
  • If the WHO approves the vaccine that you have taken, please contact the Center for Student Assistance to let them know that your vaccine has been approved by the WHO. You will then be considered fully vaccinated and will no longer have to wear masks or participate in surveillance testing.

You will need to quarantine for 10 days once you enter the United States. Please let us know if you need quarantine space by completing this survey.

Vaccine Status

NIU does not considered you to be fully vaccinated. You should receive the second dose of either Moderna or Pfizer as soon as you are eligible. NIU can arrange for you to receive the second dose while you are in quarantine (assuming the appropriate time has passed since your first shot).  Please contact the Center for Student Assistance to schedule a time to receive the vaccine. 

If you are not able to receive your second dose before moving into the residence hall or the first day of classes, you should do the following until you receive your second dose:

Please contact the Center for Student Assistance immediately after you arrive in the United States to schedule a time to receive the vaccine. Once you are vaccinated, please upload proof of your vaccine status. This must be done before you move into the residence halls or no later than August 20 if you don’t live in the residence halls but are taking in-person classes.

You must apply for and receive a medical, religious, or personal exemption before you move into your residence hall or by August 20 if you don’t live in the residence halls but are taking in-person classes. You also must wear face masks while in indoor spaces, practice social distancing, and participate in the university’s weekly surveillance testing.
