This dashboard reports positive COVID-19 test and recovery result data on students, faculty and staff who have physically been on campus, visited a satellite location (Rockford, Lorado Taft, Naperville, Hoffman Estates) or an affiliate location where coursework occurs, within 14 days of testing positive. We also include those students with a DeKalb address. Faculty and staff data are grouped together as “employees” on the dashboard. This information will be updated daily by 4 p.m., Monday through Friday beginning Wednesday, August 19th, to coincide with students returning to campus. County level COVID-19 data is available on the Illinois Department of Public Health website.
Faculty, staff and students are to contact the NIU COVID-19 Helpline (815-753-0444) if diagnosed with COVID-19, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, as this allows the university to provide support, initiate appropriate contact tracing and reduce the spread of the virus.
NIU began COVID-19 surveillance tests Wednesday, Sept. 2, for students living in residence halls, those who attend select, in-person classes on the DeKalb campus, and student athletes, as part of NIU’s multi-pronged strategy to mitigate and monitor the spread of COVID-19.
Weekly aggregate surveillance testing results are posted each Monday or on Tuesdays in the event a holiday falls on a Monday. Positive test results will also be reflected in the university’s daily, current statistical totals as the results are received.
Before being allowed to live on campus, NIU students were required to take a COVID-19 PCR test no sooner than seven days before their scheduled move in and provide documentation of a negative result. A total of 2,037 students were tested and 39 tested positive for a 1.9% positivity rate. We look forward to welcoming those 39 students to our campus and residence halls once they’ve been cleared to move in.
