COVID-19 Student Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get a COVID-19 test on campus?

You can make an appointment for a nasal PCR test at the Student Health Center (SHC). The test will be billed by the Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group to your health insurance. We recommend confirming with your health insurance that a test at the SHC will be covered prior to testing.

When can I return to in-person classes?

You can return to class on Day 6 as long as you are ever free from fever, vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours. You should use the Guidelines for Counting Isolation Days to determine your return date. If your symptoms are not improving by Day 6, you should notify your professors of your continued absence, discuss appropriate accommodations with them and continue to isolate until you feel better. If you live in NIU Housing, you’ll also be notified by Housing when you can return to your room.
