It’s Time to RSVP for Commencement and Purchase Your Cap and Gown
April 6, 2021

Dear Graduates:

We are excited to report that we are finalizing the details for commencement ceremonies. To make sure you can participate in the ceremonies, please take the following steps as soon as you can. It will only take a few moments, and you’ll be all set to walk in the ceremony!

  1. Find the date and time for your ceremony at the NIU Commencement Website.
  2. Then use the RSVP link on the NIU Commencement Website to officially register for the appropriate ceremony.

Note: The deadline to reserve a spot is May 10, 2021, but early registration is strongly encouraged. This will help us with our planning.

  1. Visit the Cap and Gown page to purchase your cap and gown (your academic regalia). Orders must be submitted no later than May 20, 2021.

Note: You must be in a cap and gown to participate in commencement and there will be no option to purchase a cap and gown on site.

Note: Please feel free to use a borrowed black cap and gown if you want to borrow regalia from a family member or friend.

If you have questions about completing these steps or need support, please contact

We continue to work with local health officials to ensure that these events are safe and comply with all state mandates regarding number of attendees, physical distancing, masks wearing, etc. Information on how to obtain digital tickets for the ceremonies will be provided in the weeks ahead.
