Volunteers Needed for Commencement
April 26, 2021
As you know, NIU is planning to host two Commencement weekends this summer: June 4-6 for 2021 graduates (plus 2020 doctoral graduates) and June 25-27 for 2020 graduates.
In a normal year, I’d be sending out communications to all faculty and staff encouraging you to come to commencement and support your graduates as guests. However, we all recognize that we are not in a normal year. Because of the continuing safety precautions, we must limit the number of guests our graduates are allowed to have, and therefore, are not able to open the masters or undergraduate events as we have done in the past (the doctoral hooding will be small and allow hooding faculty to be in attendance). While we understand that this news may be disappointing, there is another way for you to attend – help us out by volunteering!
With ten commencement ceremonies planned this summer, we are in need of volunteers to help ensure each event is safe and successful for our graduates and guests. Faculty and staff are needed to volunteer for a variety of tasks including greeting graduates and guests, handing out student reader cards, ensuring that graduates and guests remain physically distanced and are wearing masks, and helping guests and graduates to find their seats.
If you are interested in helping out, please fill out the NIU Commencement volunteer form no later than May 10, 2021. If you know of students or student groups that would be interested in volunteering, please feel free to share this communication. Volunteers will be contacted with more details following this deadline. Please email email@example.com with questions.
Thank you in advance for your support of NIU graduates!
