NIU Supports Gov. Pritzker Extending Stay-at-Home Order

Dear Employees,

Gov. Pritzker has announced that Illinois will continue its stay-at-home order through April 30 as a critical means to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and save lives. This action is necessary and one that Northern Illinois University fully supports. I will continue to implore every member of our NIU community to take your role seriously in helping to flatten the curve.

In the nearly two weeks since the initial stay-at-home executive order was communicated, NIU implemented plans to facilitate distance learning and to support our residential students and essential university operations. These activities, including working remotely, will remain in place during April, as does the university’s commitment to supporting our employees.

Looking ahead, we are thinking seriously about scheduled summer activities and travel given the current predictive modeling for COVID-19 spread and mitigation. As decisions are made, we will continue to provide timely guidance and instructions for future planning via email and the NIU COVID-19 site.

Lastly, I want you to remember that you are making a difference. Whether through your social distancing, your fierce commitment to our students or the care you are showing your fellow colleagues, you are making a difference. That’s something I count on and appreciate.

Together Forward,

Lisa C. Freeman
