Commencement Plans for May and June
March 11, 2021

Greetings faculty and staff,

We are delighted to announce that planning is underway for in-person spring commencement ceremonies to celebrate the accomplishments of our spring 2021 graduates as well as all 2020 graduates who missed out on this rite of passage because of the pandemic.

Members of the classes to be recognized will receive notice later today.

Ceremonies for spring 2021 graduates will be held June 4-6 while those for 2020 graduates will be held June 25-27 (with the exception of 2020 doctoral graduates, who will be included in a ceremony June 4).

Under a plan created in consultation with the DeKalb County Health Department , all ceremonies will be held outdoors at Huskie Stadium with limits on the number of attendees (two guests per graduate) and strict enforcement of physical distancing and wearing of masks.

We are determined to make these events as joyous and as safe as possible, and we will be asking members of the Huskie community to volunteer their time on those weekends to make that happen. Information on the types of assistance needed, and directions on how to register, will be provided at a later date.

As additional information becomes available, it will be shared with graduates and posted on the NIU Commencement website.
