To say Lilli Bishop “works beyond expectations” – as her boss at the NIU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic does – is an understatement.

Bishop, who has served as a clinical supervisor in the clinic's speech-language pathology since 1987, counts among her many responsibilities the provision of speech-language and swallowing services to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Unlimited Performance and DeKalb County Nursing Home. Each semester, she teaches a new group of graduate clinicians “compassionate, effective service delivery” while assuring they obtain a basic experience with diagnosis and treatment of adult clients.

When NIU closes for winter break, however, “Lilli continues to see patients in the facilities herself rather than have them go without service,” said Anne D. Davidson, clinic director. “If another speech-language pathologist is ill or out of the clinic for any reason, Lilli always finds a way to cover her colleague's scheduled clients as well as her own. She does this quietly and without fanfare.”

She teaches classes, offers guest lectures, serves on department committees, represents the clinic at the NIU Wellness Fair and at local organizations, attends professional conferences and works to lift awareness of speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

Bishop is president of the board of the Children's Learning Center , and also served on the board of the Ben Gordon Center Foundation.
