Students, faculty and staff were asked to vote on an updated design for the NIU OneCard and the votes have been tallied.
The new OneCard comes with the new feature of Near Field Communication technology. Rather than having to swipe your OneCard, you will now be able to tap your OneCard at many locations, including all dining locations on campus, at the NIU Recreation Center and at campus laundry facilities. This new feature is expected to be available at all locations where the OneCard is accepted by fall 2023.
Eligibility and Distribution
New and Transfer students: You are eligible to receive the new OneCard.
Returning students: Distribution of the new OneCard will happen in phases. Please watch your NIU campus email for more information regarding when you are eligible to receive a new OneCard.
Faculty and staff: More information will be available in fall 2021.
Please Note: Due to a national chip shortage, there is a delay in the arrival of our new card stock, and we are no longer able to offer the option to purchase the new OneCard on July 26th to returning students, faculty and staff as originally announced. New freshman and transfer students are not impacted.
As a courtesy, starting July 26th, individuals that have purchased a card, as a result of an old card being lost, damaged or stolen, can replace their OneCard for free when additional card stock becomes available. Eligible students will be notified at that time. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
