What Is an Ombudsperson?

An ombudsperson provides confidential, impartial assistance to those with problems or concerns. They consider all sides of an issue and offer strategies for resolution.

The NIU ombudsperson is separate from the university's formal administrative structure. The ombudsperson helps students, faculty, staff and other members of the NIU community with university-related concerns. Among other services, they listen to issues, provide information and identify solutions.
