Transfer Family Orientation
Families of students starting at NIU in summer or fall 2018 are invited to attend Family Orientation.
Things to remember about Family Orientation:
- Family Orientation is an opportunity for you to meet key academic and support staff who will play a key role in your student’s success. Sessions at orientation cover important topics such as: finances, health/wellness and safety.
- You’ll attend sessions with and without your student. Although you’ll get to meet your student’s academic college, you don’t attend advising/registration with him/her.
- Family Orientation is designed for parents and other adult family members. Information presented may not be appropriate for younger siblings or children.
- There is no fee to attend transfer family orientation, but we would like your student to register you when they sign-up for his/her own orientation through MyNIU.
Family Orientation will introduce you to key academic and support services available to your student. You’ll meet faculty, staff and current students who will share information and advice with you about student success at NIU. Family Orientation is also a time to questions answered and help you prepare you for the transition of your student attending NIU.
