Anita J. Rumage is a professional administrator with a distinguished track record of dedication and commitment. She specializes in nonprofit leadership with experience in fee-for-service and payment-free client services, public policy, and government and private grant administration. Anita has demonstrated talent for working with diverse organizations and all levels of management, staffing and volunteerism.
Anita has over 27 years of nonprofit leadership experience. In addition to day-to-day and operational leadership for the organizations she has served, Anita participates on many local and statewide committees that focus their efforts on the well-being of families. Anita has developed and taught college-level coursework focusing on educational leadership and child development. Anita conducts workshops on leadership transition, human resources management, child development, working with children and families, understanding children and families who have special needs (medical and behavioral), and family systems (domestic violence and mental health).
Anita is intrigued by public policy and is a staunch advocate for policies that improve the lives of children and their families. Anita has a strong desire to strengthen the nonprofit industry, advance nonprofit work and engage new stakeholders. Anita completed her Doctorate of Public Administration. Her doctoral dissertation, titled Nonprofit Leadership Transition: A Preparedness Study, explored the preparedness levels of an organization through the perceptions of both the board of directors and the executive director.
Anita has experience and proven leadership in start-up programs, as well as relocating agencies, construction of new facilities, and expansions, with her most recent $2.7 million expansion completed in June 2015. Anita has utilized Illinois Facilities Funds, Targeted Initiative Funds, government bonds, capital campaigns and business mortgages as revenue sources. Anita has successfully written private, local, state and federal grants. Anita has the ability to think broadly and creatively where funding is concerned; for example: Anita developed a year-around used-bookstore from an existing nonprofit bi-annual fundraiser to provide on-going revenue support for a nonprofit agency during her tenure as their executive director.
Anita earned a bachelor's degree in human relations, a master's degree in education (early childhood) and a doctorate degree in public administration. Anita holds a Six Sigma Human Resource Green Belt designation and is a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Anita is a graduate of Highland Community College's Leadership Institute and earned NICNE's Nonprofit Leadership Certification.
