Welcome to the website of the project, “Training Teachers to Integrate NCLI(No Child Left Inside) within NCLB (No Child Left Behind) to Promote Environmental Education” awarded to Northern Illinois University by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Education Grant for 2008-2009.

The “No Child Left Inside” (NCLI) concept is receiving increasing attention for promoting environmental education among school children. Since the publication of Richard Louv's 2005 book, “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Order," about the loss of connection to the outdoors and the corresponding increase in a range of childhood and adult maladies related to a sedentary lifestyle, and the subsequent introduction of the NCLI Act of 2007 (H.R. 3036), a number of states have been exploring innovative ways to integrate NCLI within the context of NCLB.

The primary goal of this project is to train formal and non formal educators on integrating the concept of "No Child Left Inside" within the "No Child Left Behind" framework through the design, development and delivery of innovative workshops on environmental education.
