Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act/Drug-Free Workplace Policy notification


NIU is community that cares. As part of our commitment to our proactive approach to assist students in making well-informed decisions and in accordance with the federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Amendment Act of 1989 and the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, NIU is required to disseminate this information to all students, faculty and staff on an annual basis.


Questions from students concerning this policy, alcohol and other drug programs, and/or interventions may be directed to Dr. Michael Stang, assistant vice president, Student Affairs at or 815-753-6170.

Financial Month End Close


The month of February is closing for all financial reporting activity at noon on Friday, March 9, 2018. Journals not posted at that time will go into March business. Final February reports are scheduled to be available Monday, March 12.


March reports are scheduled to be available Tuesday, March 13. These dates, and other important dates related to The Controller’s office, can be found on the FMS Reports Calendar.


*Deadline Extended* - 2017 Patricia S. Siebrasse Administrative Professional Award for Excellence


The Administrative Professionals Advisory Council is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Patricia S. Siebrasse Administrative Professional Award for Excellence.  Additional information and a downloadable nomination form are available on the Council’s website.    


The award will recognize the outstanding performance of an administrative professional at NIU who demonstrates continued commitment to their field, operational efficiency within the organization and provide meaningful contributions to NIU.  


Eligibility: NIU employees who have been employed for a minimum of 15 consecutive years in the following Civil Service classifications: clerical assistant, clerk, chief clerk, staff clerk, administrative clerk, office support associate, office support specialist, office manager, office administrator, program administrative assistant, administrative aide, administrative assistant, administrative assistant II or executive assistant.


Nomination deadline: Friday, March 23, by 4:30 p.m. Submit electronic nominations at or via campus mail to:  LEPF Department, Graham Hall 223, RE: Patricia Siebrasse Award.
