About Manager Toolkit

Your role as a manager begins with recruiting and onboarding employees. There are guidelines to follow as you select the most qualified candidate for a position. There are also steps you can take to make sure that your new employee has a smooth, positive transition to their new job. We'll assist you with these tasks and help you navigate situations that arise along the employee lifecycle.

Manager Roles and Responsibilities

You have many responsibilities in your role as a manager. In addition to selecting qualified candidates, you'll need to ensure that your employees are compensated appropriately. You'll need to examine the skills, qualifications and unique aspects of a position in order to determine an equitable pay rate. You'll also need to handle adjustments to pay related to job changes and additional compensation.

Once you have the right people on board, you must take steps to retain them. By becoming knowledgeable about the resources available to NIU employees, you can help your team members when they have a grievance or experience a difficult life event. You can also guide their professional development by providing effective performance reviews and access to training.

As a manager, you'll also deal with people leaving your team. We'll equip you with resources to handle resignations, retirements and other separations in a fair and efficient manner.
