Meet Our Mentors
"I want my mentee to be aware of the great opportunities and resources offered here on campus through the great services and the Latino Resource Center. I want to become their guide and handbook in order for them to feel comfortable and ask any questions they may have about life here at NIU."
"I would love to be a mentor again to use my knowledge and experience to help and inspire others to meet their educational and social goals. I would also love to help students adjust to NIU and make the most of their college experience."
"I want to be a mentor, so that I can be a guide to the mentee. Whether telling them where is a good place to study, a good place to relax, or how to ride the Huskie Bus, I want to be there for them. I want to build a relationship with them and watch them bloom."
"My goal is to maintain the incoming freshmen on track, while building their resumes’ with philanthropy events, research opportunities and part-time jobs."
"I want to be able to use my experience as a tool to help others not go through the same struggles that I did in order to be a successful student."

"I want to become a mentor because that is one way I can pay back and give thanks to the Latino Resource Center and the community for all the great opportunities and welcoming home they have provided for me."
"I want to be a mentor because I know it is difficult to adapt to the college environment especially when you come from a family that doesn't have much or none experience. I want to be able to help new students to be able to adapt to their new home and know that they are not alone."
"I would like to be a mentor because I enjoy helping out students. I was a mentee my freshman year, and this was a monumental help and an advantage other students should have."
"I want to become a mentor because I hope that through this program I will be able to help students have a smoother transition and feel more comfortable in facing situations throughout their first year as college students."
Biochemistry and Biological Sciences
“I just want to be an advisor [mentor] and supporter for incoming Hispanic students. I want to be able to provide the support and advice I never received. I will do my best so these students will become successful in their college career and hopefully they will enjoy their time with me as a mentor so they can be mentors as well.”
"I would like to be able to share my personal experiences with them and helped them find different opportunities to improving their leadership, community, and academic skills."
"What I could bring to them is comfort, help them be more social and help them adjust to college. I want to give back because I want to help future generations to make this world a better place."
