7:30 - 8:30 - Holmes Student Center opens for project set-up (Duke Ellington Ballroom)

Project numbers will be posted.  Also check the registration spreadsheet one week prior to the fair for student project numbers.

7:30 - 9:00 - Project safety inspection for students (Duke Ellington Ballroom)

Students please remain with your projects so that any safety violations can be addressed immediately.  Safety inspectors put out the judging forms for each student. A safety inspector should visit each project by 9:00.  Please contact someone in the scoring room if this does not occur.

8:00 - 8:30 - Project judges arrive and check in (Carl Sandburg Auditorium)

Look for signs indicating the location of the judges’ room.  NIU provides juice, coffee, and rolls for the judges. Judges should find their category and sit in the auditorium based on the judging number; judging teams will be assigned in advance.  Judging is done in pairs; one experienced judge is partnered with one inexperienced judge, and judges from the same school will not be paired together.

8:00-8:30 - Project safety judges arrive and check in (Capitol room)

8:30 - 9:00 - Project judges’ meeting (Carl Sandburg Auditorium)

Judges will receive instructions and any last-minute information.

8:30 - 9:00 - Paper judges arrive and check in (Carl Sandburg Auditorium)

Please see above information for project judges’ arrival and check-in.

8:30 - Noon - Only safety inspectors, judges, and students allowed in the project judging areas  (Duke Ellington Ballroom)

Parents may leave the building or stay in the designated areas, but they will not be allowed in the project session areas with students.

9:00 - 9:30 - Paper judges’ meeting (Carl Sandburg Auditorium)

9:00 - Noon - Project judging (Duke Ellington Ballroom)

There will be only one official judging conducted by two judges, together.   At 9:00, or shortly thereafter, the official judges should stop to briefly introduce themselves.

Project presentation should last no more than 10 minutes.  Questioning from judges should last about 5 minutes, and then the judges will take the paper for review.  Make sure that the paper is returned when they return the comment sheet.  Students should remain with their projects until the judging has concluded at noon.  

9:30 - 1:00 - Paper judging (Tower rooms 305, 405, and 505)

All paper judging will take place in tower rooms 305, 405, and 505.  Please wait quietly outside your assigned room to present.  You must have your own computer for use in your presentation.  Internet will be available.

Noon – 2:30 - Science fair open to the public

Please leave your projects boards up and on display.  Go to lunch.

Noon – 2:30 – Sponsors’ lunch (Ellington Room)

A complimentary lunch will be available for all sponsors.

2:00 – 2:30 – Sponsors’ meeting (Ellington Room)

2:30 – 3:30 - Awards ceremony (Carl Sandburg Auditorium)

Parents, sponsors, and other guests are invited.

3:30 – 4:00 - Take down display boards

The fair is finished. Any unclaimed boards will be discarded.

The Nothern Illinois Regional Science Expo 9 (Region 5) project Semi-Finals will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
