Programming Committees


The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is comprised of six programming committees and a marketing team. Each committee is headed by a coordinator and brings a different type of event to campus for students.

Get Involved

As an NIU student, you can participate in CAB by serving on one of the committees or as one of ten coordinators or by being elected into one of four executive positions. To get started, complete an application


Athletic Events 

Devoted to increasing attendance at Huskie Athletic events and participating in recreational activities. Past events include:

  • 3-on-3 basketball tournament
  • AND1 basketball game
Classic Events

Provides unique events and activities that put a spin on popular things people love like music, tv and more.

Educational Leadership 

Plans contemporary and innovative styles of learning beyond the classroom for the campus community through various speakers, forums and venues. Past events include:

  • Speed Networking
  • Show Me Democracy
  • Alcohol social norms marketing campaign (co-sponsored)
Huskie Traditions

Creates an outlet to celebrate school pride and team spirit, while working together with the surrounding community to provide all-age, family entertainment in hopes of continuing and creating lasting traditions. Huskie Traditions is responsible for many of NIU's major homecoming events. Past events include:

  • PowderPuff football
  • Recycled boat race
  • Yell Like Hell
  • Homecoming Parade
Performing Arts

Brings live performances of various types to perform at NIU. Past events include:

  • Travis Porter party and concert
  • Gabriel Iglesias
  • Platanos Y Collard Greens play
  • Valentines day open mic
Special Events

Programming through technological, recreational and alternative forms of entertainment which cater to the interests of the student body. Past events include:

  • Wet and wild waterslides
  • Game show
  • Funny t-shirts
  • Drive-in Movie
  • Pandemonium

Marketing and Advertising

Our marketing team is committed to creating effective marketing schemes and determining effective methods of informing the campus community about upcoming events and programs. Committees include: 

  • Advertisement
  • Campus relations
  • Graphic design
  • Social and digital media
