2017 Winter Closure Payroll Distribution Schedules

This is a reminder that Northern Illinois University will maintain the published winter holiday break schedule, and University offices will be closed from the end of the business day on Thursday, December 21, 2017, through Monday, January 1, 2018.  University offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.  Colleges and Divisions will make every effort to accommodate vacation requests in association with the winter break, subject to operational needs.  

Insurance Reminder

Employees may access insurance benefits information and forms on the State Employees Group Insurance Program website ( or on the Human Resource Services (HRS) website ( under “Benefits” (also includes links to benefit provider website).

Holiday Payroll Information

Payroll direct deposits for December 31, 2017, will be credited to employee accounts on Friday, December 29, 2017.  Employees may view their payroll statement online at (click on Employee Self-Service Login).  

For those employees receiving printed paychecks, printed checks will be sent via U.S. postal service mail to home addresses early on payday in order to arrive in the timeliest manner possible.  However, NIU cannot guarantee U.S. mail delivery times.  If you do not wish to have your check sent by U.S. mail, please contact Sandy Hess at 753-6050 or  Subject to notification being provided to Sandy Hess prior to December 19, 2017, your paycheck can be made available for pickup at the Human Resource Service Center in Swen Parson, Room 110, on Tuesday, January 2, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.  The December 31 payroll statement for employees will be delivered to campus destinations on January 2, 2018. 

Hourly Time Entry summaries for the period December 16 through December 31 will be distributed on December 21, 2017, before noon and are due January 2, 2018.

Prepration for Tax Document Distribution

In preparation for distribution of W-2s and 1095cs, please check your home address online at (click on Employee Self-Service Login).  If your address is incorrect, please complete a Personal Data Form and submit it to Human Resource Services. You may also consent to receive your W-2 form electronically rather than having a paper copy sent via U.S. postal service mail (Employee Self-Service Login).
