Preparing for COVID-19 Testing and Move-In Day

To Protect the Pack during our spring semester Testing and Move-In process it is very important you read and follow our instructions. When students make their reservation, you are going to arrive and complete your COVID-19 test at the Holmes Student Center, then confirm your residence hall check in, then depart to your residence hall to complete move-in.

Students Driving Themselves

When you arrive on campus for your COVID-19 test, please park in the #5 lot behind the Campus Life Building and enter the Holmes Student Center through the east door (Normal Road Entrance).

Students Driving with Family

When you arrive on campus for your COVID-19 test, students should be dropped off and enter the Holmes Student Center through the east door (Normal Road Entrance). Families can then drive down Normal Road and enter the Visitor Parking Lot until the student completes their test. Students will then meet the family in the Visitor Parking Lot.

Please note that only students will be allowed in the Holmes Student Center testing site and guests should remain in their vehicle(s).

Reminders About Your Testing and Move-In Day

  • You are only permitted to bring two other persons to assist you for move-in.
  • All persons in your party must wear a face mask at all times.
  • Any family member (including the student) who is feeling sick on your move-in day must stay home. We can reschedule your arrival if you are unable to come to NIU on your scheduled day.
  • There will be a limited number of carts available to check out for you to use for move-in. You may wish to bring your own cart.
  • New students will need to have their NIU OneCard when they arrive to campus. If you have not completed your OneCard registration, please visit the NIU OneCard site.
  • Your move in time is designed for you to go complete you COVD-19 test first, complete your hall check in at the Holmes Student Center, unload and unpack. Once you are unpacked, we ask family members depart campus shortly after you are finished. To keep proper distancing, and assure other families have a clear move-in time, your family needs to depart the building once you are completely unloaded. We are seeking your cooperation on these move-in days so we can Protect the Pack and allow everyone to have a similar move-in experience.
