The Health Professions House brings together students interested in health and service related careers through professional development opportunities, programs, special events, service projects, and social activities. House residents have opportunities for extensive interaction and to foster relationships with other health and service related majors and with college faculty.

Floor members shape the focus of the community through programming designed to help students be effective members of a health services team and to appreciate the interrelated nature of the health professions.

  • SnackChat
Students and faculty share a free meal while engaging in discussion on relevant topics.
  • Service Activities
Visit assisted living centers, work with local organizations, and assist with blood drives.
  • TV/Movies Nights
Students and faculty watch a program & engage in discussion about what is realistic or not. Faculty often share their own professional experiences.
  • Field Trips
Visits or trips to NIU laboratories, clinics, museums, professional sports games, theatrical productions, or zoos. These may vary based on student interests.

Special Opportunities

A Themed Learning Community is a group of two to four courses taken by the same set of approximately 25 students over the course of a semester. These courses are taught in a way that will allow you to explore a common theme across all of the courses in your TLC.

If you decide to join the Health Professions House, we think you'd be interested in these TLCs:

  • Preparing for Health Careers
  • Exploring Health Majors
  • Everyday Statistics: Back to Basics
