The University Honors Program transcends disciplinary boundaries to help students broaden their horizons while reaching their goals. Students from every college at NIU are part of our program. Our role is to mentor them and connect them with impactful experiences, so they graduate with the ability to adapt to life's ever-changing conditions. Participants are intellectually curious and committed to finding and pursuing their passions. Undergraduates from all academic disciplines are welcome to apply.
We aspire to provide students with the support and enrichment necessary to succeed at NIU and after graduation, while building a community of engaged, responsible citizens. We provide one-on-one advising, specialized courses, engaged learning opportunities, a living-learning community and much more.
We're a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) and the Honors Council of the Illinois Region (HCIR).
We believe in setting up students to become lifelong learners. We help them develop critical-thinking, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to perform self-assessment. Acquiring these skills doesn't just happen in the classroom. That's why we emphasize engagement. By mentoring students and connecting them with meaningful experiences, we help them develop flexibility and determination in pursuing their goals.
