Training

We offer various trainings related to mental health and suicide awareness, prevention, and resources. These trainings and workshops can be tailored to the needs of your department or organization. Complete the training/ workshop request form with as much detail as possible for our staff to review. We will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the goals of your event and what we can offer.

Training/workshop requests must be submitted two - three weeks in advance.

Our primary training program is the QPR Gatekeeper Training by the QPR Institute. This program prepares students, faculty/staff, and community members to engage with someone who experiencing suicidal thoughts and direct them to support and care. This allows anyone to be an active contributor in suicide prevention and outreach.

Key Components of Training

  • How to question, persuade and refer someone who may be suicidal
  • How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
  • The common causes of suicidal behavior
  • The warning signs of suicide
  • How to get help for someone in crisis

Successful completion of this training program allows participants to be recognized as a certified QPR Gatekeeper (valid for three years). All trainings are led by certified instructors. This program typically takes between one and a half to two hours to complete.
