My research covers two principal areas:

(1) the prosodies of French and Italian and (2) the histories of both languages. My approach in these areas has been both formal and theoretical. My work in prosody deals with stress patterns and intonation and the effects these can have on the occurrence of vowels and consonants in French and Italian. This work has theoretical consequences as well. My historical work also deals with rhythmic patterns and their import for the historiographies of both languages.
