You’ll find NIU’s newest certificates, minors and more all have the same thing in common — connecting you to other people and the world, but especially the passions most important to you.

New Undergraduate Programs

    College of Business

    Certificate of Undergraduate Study in International Marketing

    Want to learn about the world of business and see the world at the same time? Add a certificate in International Marketing to your degree, and you’ll have a chance to study abroad.

    You don’t need to have a specific major to be eligible, but any marketing courses you take will also satisfy some requirements for an undergraduate degree in marketing.

    Minor in Counseling

    Whether you’re planning to go into business and management or mental health and social services, a minor in Counseling will prepare you for a career or continuing graduate studies.

    Consider this hot new minor for an advantage if you want to become a better communicator or go on to obtain your counseling license. Connecting with people is important in any discipline.

    Minor in Esports Industry Professionals

    Studying Esports is about more than fun and games. You’ll get an inside track to working in a leading new industry where trained professionals are in high demand.

    With only few colleges offering certificates focusing on the field, this new minor at NIU is a rare find. Any major may add the Esports minor.

    Minor in Rehabilitation Counseling

    If you’re not a Rehabilitation and Disability Services major but are interested in helping people with disabilities in your future career, choose a minor in Rehabilitation Counseling.

    You’ll gain an introduction to working with people who have disabilities in this new minor, which could help you in a variety of fields including health care, education and more.

    College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

    Certificate of Undergraduate Study in Black Studies

    Leaders who understand African American culture and history have never been more important. Serve your community by including a certificate in Black Studies with your degree.

    Your black studies classes will be drawn from academic departments from across the university, including anthropology, economics, history, political science and sociology.

    College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

    Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (B.A. or B.S.)

    Want to be an agent of societal change? Design your own interdisciplinary B.A. or B.S. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

    You’ll explore gender studies through the past and present roles, perceptions and contributions of women and LGBTQ+ people. The program will prepare you to go on to graduate school or a variety of careers including communications, education, health care, humanities and human services.

    College of Visual and Performing Arts

    Minor in Music

    You don’t have to choose Music as your major to incorporate it into your studies. Apply to the School of Music if you’re interested in pursuing this minor.

    Perform in one of many ensembles on campus, learn composition and explore whether you’d like to obtain extra requirements in your degree for a teaching endorsement.
