Giuseppe LaGioia never planned to go to college at all.
His father owns a construction company and he thought he'd simply take over the family business one day. No one in his family had gone to college before. But, following his mother's advice, he applied to NIU his senior year of high school.
"My mom kind of pushed me to kind of go on and pushed higher education and things like that so it was kind of a last-second decision to apply," he said. "I got in, and it's been a great experience ever since."
He's graduating a leader.
During his time at NIU, LaGioia was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and served as president of the Student Association and as the student representative member of the college's Board of Trustees.
"A lot of big things happened to me at NIU," he said. "I wouldn't change the experience for anything in the world."
LaGioia landed a job in March as an account manager with Impact Networking in Bolingbrook.
His advice to future students?
"I would say the biggest thing is never give up," he said. "You're capable of a lot more than you think you are. Just push yourself to the limit, and see what you can accomplish."
