Discover Financial Services eyes tech-savvy students for exciting new program
Explore new ideas. Help solve real-world business challenges. Collaborate with working professionals.
A select number of NIU students will do all three beginning in the fall of 2018. That's when Discover Financial Services plans to kick off an exciting program that will provide tech-savvy students with opportunities right in the heart of NIU's campus to help research and develop new technologies for the company.
The "Discover Campus Innovator Program" will be housed in a soon-to-be renovated area of "71 North," the university's collaborative space for innovation centrally located on campus in the bottom level of Founders Memorial Library.
Students selected for the Discover Campus Innovator Program will be paid to work on and help develop Discover technologies in the areas of mobile-software development, web-application coding and person-to-person payment systems. They also will be able to present their work and ideas to peers and company representatives, providing them with an opportunity to experience Discover's company culture.
This fall's Discover Campus Innovator Program is expected to include 40 to 50 juniors and seniors who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and are developing expertise in such areas as computer science, operations management and information systems.
Discover recruited students earlier this spring for the initial round of the program. The company will recruit and/or rehire students for new rounds of participants and projects each semester.
Discover is a leading direct banking and payment services company with one of the most recognized brands in U.S. financial services. Since its inception in 1986, the company has become one of the nation's largest card issuers.
