No out-of-state tuition rates for U.S. students beginning fall 2018

Good news: Northern Illinois University just got way more affordable for U.S. students from outside the Land of Lincoln.

The high quality of our faculty and academic programs—in such areas as business, engineering, education, nursing, the humanities, the sciences and the visual and performing arts—is well-known beyond the borders of Illinois. And we want students nationwide to experience our unique brand of hands-on, engaged learning.

That's why, beginning with the fall 2018 semester, we're eliminating the more expensive out-of-state tuition rate for U.S. students coming to NIU from outside of Illinois. The new rate structure will apply to both undergraduates and Graduate School students.

So why consider NIU if you're a student from Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, California or any other state?

We have more than 100 courses of undergraduate study, more than 70 graduate-degree programs, more than 300 student organizations, NCAA Division I Athletics and a student-to-faculty ratio of 13-1.

Our campus maintains a close-knit feel. Yet NIU has the advantage of being a major public research university—and our students can conduct research with faculty beginning freshman year.

Then there's the old adage—location, location, location.

You can enjoy the lifestyle of a large, rural Midwestern university, while still living and learning near two federal research laboratories, an international airport and the world-class city of Chicago. You can take advantage of cultural and internship opportunities throughout the region, and make important professional connections through our outstanding alumni network.
