You completed orientation; now what?

Here’s a helpful summertime checklist for our newest Huskies

High school is in the rearview mirror. College life at NIU is straight ahead.

So what’s next?

Orientation was a big first step. You met your advisor, attended a sample class, checked out our leafy campus, met some of your future classmates and learned what it means to be part of our Huskie family. But before you shift into high gear and start fall classes, there’s still a to-do list.

To help make your transition smooth, we’ve come up with a handy short list of key next steps.

    Shared access

    MyNIU Shared Access

    Sign up for Shared Access. You can grant up to two individuals access to your MyNIU student information.

    Immunization Forms

    Be sure to turn in your immunization forms by August 1.

    If you plan to commute, or are bringing your car to campus, get your parking pass.

    Alcohol EDU and Haven

    Alcohol EDU and Haven

    Complete the Alcohol EDU and Haven online programs. You’ll receive an email on how to access the online modules during the first week of August. The deadline for completion is August 28.

    Health Insurance

    If you're not enrolling in Student Health Insurance, make sure you opt out.

    Emergency contacts

    Emergency Contacts

    Update your emergency contact and mental health contacts in MyNIU.

    Make sure your high school or previous college has sent your “final official transcripts” (with all final grades posted) to the NIU Office of Admissions.

    Get ready to move-in!

    Review our moving-in tips to make sure you’re ready to turn NIU into your new home sweet home.
