Cultural Resource Centers
Home Away from Home
NIU is home to a wealth of resource centers which are essential to student development and learning. All of our resource centers are meant to be a home away from home. They provide spaces where you can express your cultural heritage, broaden your cultural knowledge and connect with others who share your interests.
Asian American Resource Center
The Asian American Resource Center provides an inclusive environment where Asian American students cultivate a strong sense of community at NIU, and where campus and community partners collaborate to raise awareness about the rich cultural heritage of Asian Americans.
Center for Black Studies
The Center for Black Studies conducts research on the experiences of people of African descent and offers a minor in Black Studies. The center promotes the retention of Black students, sponsors lectures, workshops, conferences and other student-oriented activities.
Disability Resource Center
The Disability Resource Center works to provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students and the campus community. Promoting self-advocacy and communication skills, we focus on helping students create collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.
Gender and Sexuality Resource Center
The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center acknowledges the historical impacts of women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer identities. We are inclusive of sexual and gender identities, and all forms of masculinity and femininity.
Latino Resource Center
The Latino Resource Center focuses on student-centered service by developing partnerships focused on the Latino experience while establishing an inclusive community that builds collaborative relationships across campus and in the surrounding community.
Military and Post-Traditional Student Services
Military and Post-Traditional Student Services develops student centered programs which enhance the learning environment and develop a culture of inclusion for all military and post-traditional students.
