Exemplary Faculty Mentoring Award

The Exemplary Faculty Mentoring Award recognizes a senior faculty member who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to helping junior tenure-track faculty meet their professional development goals. The presentation of this award is a visible way to formally recognize the critical value of faculty mentoring by the university. Recipients are presented with a commemorative plaque and an honorarium at the annual faculty awards ceremony in April.

The nomination period begins every February and will be announced within the colleges.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be full-time senior faculty members.
  • Nominees must have served as a faculty mentor, in a formal or informal capacity, to a junior faculty member over a continuous period of time (minimum of four semesters).
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Administrators who mentor (e.g., department and program chairs) are not eligible.
  • The award may be conferred only once upon an individual.

Criteria

The faculty mentoring advisory committee evaluates nominations and selects awardees. Applications are evaluated on the strength of the narrative in describing the mentoring competence and quality of the mentoring relationship, as well as the influence the mentor has had on the mentee's success as a faculty member.
