Accessibility Exception Acknowledgment

NIU is committed to providing electronic and information technology (EIT) that is accessible according to state and federal law, refreshed versions of which went into effect on January 18, 2018.

The law recognizes that sometimes exceptions must be made.

  • Undue burden
    • no accessible alternative is acceptable
    • the industry standard EIT is required
    • extreme cost difference
  • The product is not public-facing.
  • Knowing exactly who will use the EIT and they can access the product/service

However, an equally effective alternative must be available when a person with disabilities needs to use the EIT.

Ask the vendor if there is a timeline to accessibility compliance.
