Now accepting applications for fall 2021. The submission deadline is March 15, 2021. All submissions should be able to follow NIU’s COVID-19 guidelines for undergraduate research, artistry and scholarly projects.


Proposal Requirements

  • Abstract.
  • Broader impacts statement outlining how this project has the potential to benefit society or contribute to achieving specific societal outcomes.
  • Sustainability statement explaining how this project will be sustained beyond READ funding.
  • Identified project milestones (at least six are required).
  • Project timeline.
  • Itemized budget and justification.
  • Letter of support from any relevant partners (partners are encouraged).
  • Students:
  • Faculty:
    • Identified undergraduate student(s) *student(s) must be selected in advance of the application; or
    • Clear plan for recruitment must be outlined in the application.

Selection Process

  • Applications reviewed by the Committee on Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Selected applicants will be notified at the start of the spring semester.
