How do you wear your Red and Black? We are celebrating our 125th anniversary in style with a virtual fashion show. You’re invited to send us a digital photo showcasing your favorite red and black NIU fashion. It can be casual, professional, athletic or formal. We just want to see how you celebrate NIU. Please send us an original picture from your camera (horizontal if possible) no later than Oct. 1, 2020 to be included in the 125 Ways to Rock Your Red and Black fashion show. The show will be featured in October as a part of NIU’s Homecoming Week. You should submit their photo using Microsoft Forms. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Director of Community Promotion Jennifer Groce at jgroce@niu.edu or Assistant Vice President for Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Monique Bernoudy at mbernoudy@niu.edu.

Training notices will be sent to your official NIU email. If you were hired or processed after the training date opens, you may not have access to the training. Ethics Training – Questions or accommodations should be referred to Karen Smith at EthicsTraining@niu.edu. Pursuant to the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act (5 ILCS 430/5-10), the state of Illinois mandates that all employees on the payroll of state agencies and universities must complete an annual ethics training. The Office of Inspector General oversees compliance with this requirement. Those who do not comply are subject to the possibility of fines and disciplinary action. Any employees who have not completed this training requirement by the deadline must be reported to the state and will receive a notification from the university. “New Hire/Orientation Ethics Training” is required for newly hired employees in every employment category who do not have access to the online training. This training is available at go.niu.edu/EthicsNewHire. Please follow the completion instructions within the document. CyberSecurity Awareness Training – Questions or accommodations should be referred to the self-service portal at it.niu.edu > Get Help. This annual training meets the requirements per several regulatory agencies as well as state and federal laws. However, not all employees are required to complete this training. If an employee is required to complete it, they will receive an email to their Employee ID email address. The training consists of NIU policy review and less than one hour of short, on-demand modules with knowledge checks and assessments. Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation.
"Art and Soul" BLM street painting event, Thursday, Oct. 1 The Center for Black Studies and the College of Visual and Performing Arts are hosting an art for social justice event, "Art and Soul." The event will be held on Thursday, October 1, from 1 - 4 p.m. at the main entrance of the university on Castle Drive. The Huskie Buses will be re-routed from noon, Thursday, October 1 until Friday morning.
The entire community is invited to join together to help paint “Black Lives Matter” on Castle Drive. Paint, rollers, and brushes will be supplied.
Participants will be limited to 50 at any one time, but you may join in throughout the afternoon to make your mark and show your commitment to social justice.
All safety measures will be followed. Masks must be worn, and some will be available at the event. Wipes will be used to clean the brush handles and rollers after each use. Safety protocols will be facilitated by members of the Center for Black Studies and students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
In addition to the group painting, there will be performances and speakers throughout the event, including singers, jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, dance improvisation, and readings from a variety of texts.
"The paint used is water-based and non-toxic," said Paul Kassel, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. "It is expected to last through the rest of the fall semester. Though the image may fade, our commitment to social justice and to a strong Huskie community will remain vivid and strong. We believe that one answer to a hateful act is an act of affirmation of our values. It is in that spirit that this event is being held—to testify and signify to all that NIU holds an unshakeable belief that Black Lives Matter."
