All NIU employees, students and guests to wear masks indoors
DeKalb County has now been designated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a location with “substantial” levels of COVID-19 transmission. Effectively immediately, all NIU employees, students and guests, whether vaccinated or not, are required to wear masks indoors.  The only exception to this is for individuals alone in their private work or living spaces. Read the full guidance.

Updated signage is available on the Protecting the Pack website
Updated health safety guidance signage is available on the Protecting the Pack website. Please remove outdated signage within your office areas and ensure that signage around campus is up-to-date.

PeopleSoft maintenance scheduled
Oracle will be performing maintenance on their OCI routers on Monday, Aug. 2, between 11 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. The router outage is expected to be no more than 20 minutes long, but we don’t know exactly when the outage will occur within this maintenance window. This maintenance will affect connectivity between our data center and OCI where our PeopleSoft systems reside. Even though the PeopleSoft systems will remain online, users will be unable to login and remote servers will be unable to connect to PeopleSoft during this
outage.

Seeking faculty mentors for the Research Rookies Program
The Research Rookies program provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to participate in a faculty-mentored research project regardless of their major or year in school. During the fall semester, students participate in research exploration and preparation activities, and then transition to hands-on research alongside faculty mentors during the spring semester. We are currently developing a list of available Research Rookies Faculty Mentors for academic year 2021-22. If you are available to mentor an undergraduate student during this time, please fill out the short interest form by Sept. 1.

Volunteers needed for Week of Welcome
Week of Welcome (WOW) is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, Aug. 18 through Sunday, Aug. 22. This week of events is quickly approaching and your help is needed. Show your Huskie Pride during WOW by signing up to volunteer! This is an all-hands-on-deck effort to welcome students to campus.

Volunteer time slots are available throughout the week and will provide the opportunity to help welcome all new and returning students to campus. We will require assistance with a variety of tasks during all five days of WOW. A full schedule of events and event details can be viewed on the WOW calendar feed.

You can select which event(s) and time slot(s) you would like to volunteer for using the Week of Welcome Volunteer Sign-Up Form. Supervisors are encouraged to offer flexible scheduling to allow staff members to volunteer during this time.

Merlynette Griffin named interim ombudsperson
Merlynette Griffin has held many job titles at NIU, but each position had one thing in common – the need to counsel students and others with whom she worked. That knack for providing guidance and compassion will come in very useful in her new job as the interim ombudsperson. She takes over the position Aug. 1.

“I like working with students in challenging situations and helping them solve problems,” Griffin says. Read more.
