Updated Facemask Policy During Bridge Phase
The university has reviewed the recent CDC guidance regarding wearing facemasks and consulted with both the state and the DeKalb County Health Department. Because there is currently no way to determine easily who has been fully vaccinated, the default will remain that all individuals regardless of vaccination status must wear facemasks while indoors with few exceptions. Read more about our updated policy on facemasks.

Applaud a Colleague

Applaud a colleague is a show of appreciation for those co-workers who go above and beyond. These are just a few of the employees throughout the university that go the extra mile:

• Cathy Carlson
• Jeanette Rossetti
• Mindy Goldstick
• Center for Innovation Teaching and Learning
• Sandy Hess and Payroll Staff

CSA Sinfonia auditions scheduled for May 29
High school musicians are invited to sign up to audition for CSA Sinfonia. Auditions begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29 and must be scheduled in advance. String, brass, woodwind players and percussionists ages 14 to 20 are encouraged to audition.

Linc Smelser will conduct Sinfonia auditions in person and via Zoom. Musicians should be prepared to play two short contrasting pieces and demonstrate sight reading ability. Those who meet the skill requirements are invited to become members of the youth symphony for the 2021-2022 season.

Offered by the NIU Community School of the Arts, CSA Sinfonia is a top regional, full youth orchestra performing original masterpieces by Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and occasionally including popular music classics arranged for orchestra. The music is fun and challenging. Members of Sinfonia enjoy a rewarding experience rehearsing with new friends and preparing for performances in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in fall and spring.

CSA Sinfonia auditions can be scheduled online or by calling the CSA office at 815-753-1450.

Register for the EAP Return to Work Wellness Talk
As the university begins to bring more employees back to campus, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) office is planning an open discussion to help as we prepare ourselves mentally for this return. There were feelings and emotions which you likely experienced when we started working from home last year. As we consider and plan our returns to campus, you may be having some feelings that you would like to share and examine.  From working with your colleagues again after a long time apart to the simple process of getting prepared for a work day, we plan to discuss how you can mentally prepare to come back to campus successfully. Please register by Friday, May 28.

Note:
This discussion will NOT be one to debate or address NIU or HRS policies or procedures, CDC or Health Department expectations. We fully expect the university and HR to address those concerns over the summer.

Visit our registration webpage.
