Resources for Teaching Remotely

Teaching Tip of the Week
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) helps faculty explore and evaluate innovative ways to use learning technologies for teaching at NIU. These learning technologies include recommended and institutionally supported software and web tools to promote collaboration, enhance communication, share multimedia, teach online and more. In addition to supporting established learning technologies like Blackboard, CITL also works with faculty and administrators to pilot new tools.

Learn more about the variety of learning technologies that are available to you through the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning.

What advice would you give to students currently attending NIU?
“The tagline that resonates with me at NIU is: Huskies. Never. Quit. This is such an important motto that I would also translate into advice to students currently attending NIU. Meet your challenges head on and don’t quit. Don’t give up. Keep going and know that you can do it.”

Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Health Professions, College of Health and Human Sciences

If you are the recipient of a phishing attempt or suspicious email, forward the suspicious communication as an attachment to abuse@niu.edu.

Huskie Pride Lights initiative
announced

Celebrating the accomplishments of our fellow Huskies is an important part of the NIU experience and one of the most visible is the relatively new tradition of lighting the tower on the Holmes Student Center red to acknowledge a special achievement or day.

It’s a stirring symbol that can be seen for miles in every direction, but it also comes with challenges. How best to determine when to light it up, and how to communicate what is being commemorated? Read more.

Huskies help Huskies through Student-Faculty Links mentorship program
Hollie Rodriguez knows the important role a mentor can play in a student’s educational experience.

“I had a handful of informal mentors from all over campus,” said Rodriguez, who graduated from NIU in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in English. “Mentors in Career Services, from my major program, and even my work-study job made a huge difference in my experience at NIU.” Read more.
