The Scaperlanda Scholarship for Study Abroad in Economics

Tony Scaperlanda, a retired NIU Economics professor and department chair, has established a scholarship for study abroad for Economics majors and minors.

Criteria

  • The preferred candidate is an economics major or minor with at least a 3.0 overall GPA and three or more economics courses completed for which the GPA is at least 3.0.
  • The candidate must complete the department's application form that includes a description of how study abroad is expected to supplement on-campus educational opportunities and a summary budget.
  • If sufficient funds are available, more than one award may be granted in a single year.

Up to $3,000 is available for this scholarship. Study abroad can be an extremely valuable experience, exposing you to a different culture in which the economic system (for example, the role of government or labor relations) may be different from the way the U.S. economy operates. Also, study abroad experience looks very good on a resume.
