CAPM and PMP Certification Prep Course

This prep course is appropriate for both CAPM and PMP exams, but the content is more comprehensive than what is tested on the CAPM exam and emphasizes detailed content most relevant to the PMP examination.

2020 Exam Deadline

Our current course is aligned with the updated 6th Edition PMBOK® Guide and exam guidelines effective through December, 2020. If you plan to sit for the PMP® exam after taking this course, you'll need to test by the December 2020 deadline.

Candidates for the PMP® examination must attend all class sessions to meet the 35 hour educational requirement established by the Project Management Institute. If a class is missed, students will be required to make it up at a future session. Attendance requirements apply to all course formats.

Students are required to have Internet access, and use a web camera and microphone to participate in the online live sessions. This equipment is not provided by the university.

The online course costs $1,695. The in-person course costs $1,995. PMI members, NIU alumni, and NIU staff and students receive a discount.

  • For 21 or more calendar days in advance of start date: Full refund, no fee.
  • For 15 to 20 days’ notice in advance of start date: Cancellation fee of 30% of regular registration price.
  • For 8 to 14 days’ notice in advance of start date: Cancellation fee of 40% of regular registration price.
  • For 7 or less days’ notice prior to start date: Cancellation fee of 50% of regular registration price.

NIU CPE reserves the right to cancel courses within 14 days of class start and prior to shipment of materials if enrollments are not sufficient.

NIU uses the CertWise Learning System for PMP® exam preparation and the PMBOK® Guide as the study materials for both exam levels. However, the body of knowledge content covered in the program is more comprehensive than what is covered on the CAPM® exam and focuses on detailed content relevant to the PMP® examination.

The registration fee is inclusive of CERTWISE™ Learning System for PMP® Exam Preparation course materials and online resources, current edition of the PMBOK® Guide, continental breakfast, lunch and break service for in-person Saturday and Intensive programs. Books will be shipped to students via UPS 10 days prior to the class start. Participants will receive an e-mail communication from Holmes Corp with instructions for accessing the online component a few days prior to the class start. This program is open to anyone who wants to increase their project management leadership skills. Sitting for the exam is not a requirement; however, some topics covered in class sessions may be more directed to those preparing for the exams.

PMP Exam Details

  • 200 multiple choice questions (175 scored questions and 25 unscored/pre-test questions).
  • Four-hour time limit.
  • Computer-based testing (CBT) format administered by Pearson VUE testing centers (paper-based testing is available under limited circumstances).
  • Exam is administered in English.
  • Exam content weighted by the five domains from the PMP® examination content outline:
    • People (42%)
    • Process (50%)
    • Business environment (8%)
  • Exam eligibility period is one year from your exam application approval date. You may test three times in one year.
  • You'll receive a printed copy of your results immediately after completing your exam. This will include pass/fail status and a proficiency level by domain (proficient, moderately proficient, below proficient).
