Phase 1 (complete) - The International Garden
With the help of students, staff, and community members, Phase 1 of the garden was successfully completed in 2015. The International Garden features several types of peppers, legumes, tomatoes, and leafy greens and is intended to provide our international students with a little taste of home.
Phase 2 (in progress) - Wild Edibles
Phase 2 of the garden, designed by NIU student Rachel Farrell, will feature the Wild Edibles extension to the garden. The garden will feature a wide variety of native and non-native wild edible plants including asparagus, sunchoke, rhubarb, sorrel, raspberries, wild hyacinth, groundnut, and garlic chives. This section of the garden should be completed in the 2018 growing season.
Phases 3 & 4
Phases 3 and 4 will likely be completed in 2019. Some sections will begin in 2018, such as the Children's Garden and the native plant areas.
