We take safety seriously. That's why we offer many services designed to help you stay safe and support you if you're the victim of a crime.
Huskie Patrol is a free service that provides walking companions on weeknights between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Call 815-753-9658 to have one of our trained patrol members walk with you to any location on campus.
Huskie Safe Line
Huskie Safe Line is a shuttle service that operates during late night hours after the Huskie bus line stops running. This free service is available to NIU students, faculty and staff, as well as community members with disabilities. The shuttle travels a fixed route with 35 pick-up and drop-off locations.
Having car trouble on campus? Help is only a phone call away. The Department of Police and Public Safety can help if you've locked your keys in your car or need to jump-start your battery. For assistance, call 815-753-1212.
Women's Self-defense Training
We're proud to sponsor the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system of self-defense training for women. We offer training courses throughout the year to teach you awareness, risk reduction and physical defense.
We maintain a TipLine based in part on the International Crime Stopper Program. Use the TipLine to report information about illegal activities and/or violations of the Student Code of Conduct without revealing your identity. To report information, call 815-753-TIPS (8477).
Advocacy Services provides free and confidential services to any student who has been directly or indirectly impacted by sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence or stalking.
