Get on the Bus

The NIU Art Museum’s Get-on-the-Bus Excursion program gives participants an opportunity to visit various art and architecture sites, historic homes, art galleries, museums, artists’ studios and art fairs.

Get-on-the-Bus provides a great way to explore and to discover new and interesting destinations and neighborhoods while avoiding the hassles of traffic, tolls and parking. It is also a great way to meet new friends with a common interest in the arts! Additional trips are added throughout the year and announced first in our membership newsletter, Museum Notes. Friends of the NIU Art Museum members always receive a discount and early registration on our trips. Join today!

Important Things to Know When You Get On The Bus

Unless otherwise noted, participants are responsible for meal costs. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable clothing and shoes, since long periods of walking and standing may be involved.

University buses or vans leave from the NIU Parking Deck at the Northeast corner of Locust Street and Normal Road on campus. Please arrive 15 minutes before departure so we can leave on time. Drivers aren't able to wait for late individuals. Parking is available in the Visitor’s Pay Lot at 200 Carroll Avenue just west of the parking deck. On the weekends and after 5 p.m. on weeknights, campus parking is free in the parking deck.

Depending on the destination and travel time, bus rides are sometimes long, so please bring snacks, reading material or music with headphones. You can leave these items on the bus during tours and visits - the bus is always locked.
