Recruitment

NIU policy requires faculty and supportive professional staff (SPS) positions to be filled through a search process. The process begins with recruiting candidates. Our office is involved with recruitment to encourage a pool of qualified and diverse candidates.

Before recruitment can begin, the president must approve the filling of a position. You can request this approval in PeopleAdmin. Once the search is approved, we'll work with you to develop and execute a plan for recruiting candidates.

Developing the Publicity Plan

A publicity plan is required for requests for faculty and SPS positions. We'll help you develop your publicity plan. Your plan should include strategies for broadening the applicant pool.

Writing the Position Description

When writing the position description, you should include items related to diversity. These help establish that skills related to diversity and equity are expected as part of the position's duties and responsibilities.

Advertising the Position

We can assist you with writing the position advertisement. Consider posting information about the position on job boards and through networking opportunities.

You can request an advertising-friendly version of the job posting to share through professional social channels. View a sample of a page. Request one in PeopleAdmin under as part of the hiring process in the section titled "Publication(s) to be placed by department/unit."
